KRS-One rocked the East River Park Amphitheatre with Dj Kid Capri killing it! Such a lesson of real hip hop. Still the number 1 MC on the planet. It was so inspiring! Everyone was singing along. KRS-One at the Wild Style Amphitheatre, a great moment of NYC hip hop history. And in front of my house! I would have never imagined this when I went to see BDP in Tokyo the first time in the late 80s at Kawasaki Club Citta.

The Dubai Brooklyn warehouse party in Bushwick was crazy! It is really good to play in those kind of raw warehouse parties. The energy was insane. Everybody is free doing whatever they want partying down. It is a shame the sound system wasn't that great though.
Our Sotto Voce summer fever party at Mangiami was really good. There was such a great vibe in the restaurant. Jason Kincade and Hugh Herrera played real good records.
I am just back in Tokyo for a week. I am playing at Grassroots on Friday night and at CAY for Gallery 10th anniversary this Sunday. Do not miss it! This is going to be a very special night.

I went to check the Creative Time presents Playing the Building: An Installation by David Byrne at the Battery Maritime Building in Manhattan. It is an amazing sound installation in which the infrastructure of this great old Ferry building is converted into a giant musical instrument. You play this old organ which is connected to devices attached to the building structure creating activations through wind, vibration and striking producing sounds! This is a brilliant idea.

The artist Olafur Eliasson created 4 man-made waterfalls in the New York harbour situated along the shorelines of Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn and Governors Island. They look great at night! They will be on view from June 26 to October 13.
I went to see at the World Financial Center last Tuesday a free live show of Fennesz + Sakamoto. It was such a beautiful "ambient" show! I really enjoyed Sakamoto on the piano and Fennesz on the laptop and the guitar. They closed the show with Sakamoto's latest song "Koko".
A new live band in NYC called "The Phenomenal Handclap Band" played their first ever show at 105 Rivington on Wednesday. They only played 3 songs (from their forthcoming excellent first album) but it was very good! They play a great mixture of disco/funk/latin/rock. All the band members are all super talented and have been playing with different people in NYC. Quinn aka Bing Jin LIng is one of them. They have a huge cast of excellent musicians on the album.

I was happy to find the other day at Downtown 304 the 2nd release of the Edinburgh-based firecracker label that I love! There are 3 very good deep beatdown releases until now on 10" vinyl records with great american comics type of designed artwork record sleeves.
I went to the Japan Society in midtown Manhattan for the JAPAN CUTS, Festival of New Japanese Film which ran from July 2nd to July 13th to watch the documentary movie "Yasukuni". I thought it was a well documented, well done and interesting documentary about the controversial Yasukuni shrine in Tokyo home of the 2nd World War deads and the history of Japan's 2nd World War.. I enjoyed it. This festival featured 18 U.S. and NY premiere films plus a sidebar tribute to one of my favourite late filmmaker Kon Ichikawa, and over 60 short films from Japan's emerging independent filmmakers, video artists. I thought it was a great festival with great quality and with a very good selection.
話題のドキュメンタリー映画「靖国」を観にMANHATTANのミッドタウンにあるジャパン・ソサエティーで7/2から7/13までに行われている日本映画祭「JAPAN CUTS, FESTIVAL OF NEW JAPANESE FILM」へ。靖国神社、そして日本の第二次世界大戦の歴史を伝える非常に良く出来たそして考えさせられる興味深い作品でした。良かったです。この映画祭では、アメリカとNYC初公開の話題の18の新作の日本映画(Sakuran、大日本人、もがりの森等)、60作の短編映画、そして今年の2月に亡くなられた日本映画を代表する大好きな映画監督市川崑に捧げる特別上映会が行われた。セレクションのクオリティーとセンスがとても良かった映画祭だと思いました。
Thursday night back we celebrated DJ Spun's birthday at my weekly residency at Santos Party House for the Respect Ete d'Amour party. The back to back in the end with Spun, Prince Language, James Curd (Greenkeepers, Chicago) was fun.105 Rivington was on fire on Friday night.

The Rong Music "Warm-up" party at PS1 on Saturday was great. The weather was absolutely beautiful with a special live performance by Free Blood and a killer inspiring set by birthday boy Spun.
I went for the first time with a group of friends later to eat some real good greek food in Astoria, Queens in the greek neighborhood at "Elias Corner for fish". What a great experience! We had 4 different types of grilled fish. Delicious! This is the great thing living in NYC.
その後、大勢でQUEENSのギリシャ地区ASTORIAでギリシャ料理を「ELIAS CORNER FOR FISH」へ食べに。これがまた凄く面白い体験でした! 4種類の白身の焼き魚がとにかく最高でした! 本当に美味しかったです。こういうことはNYCでしか経験出来ないです。
I crossed the Williamsburgh bridge to hang out at the No Ordinary Monkey Grand Ferry Park afternoon party on Sunday. It was good to see everybody. A perfect way to end up a great NYC summer week end!
I was invited to DJ for a Y-3 party in Beijing, China to celebrate the opening of the new Y-3 store in Beijing. My first time in Beijing. The party was to be held on the rooftop of the brand new design hotel "The Emperor" right next to the Forbidden City. A dream location for a party! The weather hasn't been great and unfortunately after I played 3 records heavy rain started and we had to move the party in the restaurant in the basement for the rest of the evening. What a shame! The rooftop was so beautiful and everything was there for it to be an amazing party. We were all disappointed. But it happens. The vibe of the party was great though. Lots of VIPs came down. We had a great party.

Beijing was working non-stop for the Olympics. It is really a fascinating city with lots of beautiful places to visit and things to do. The underground night life scene is vibrating to underground dance music with a lot of different great spaces. You can feel it there more than in Shanghai. It is a very interesting place with great energy open to the future with so much history and culture at the same time. The chinese underground scenes are here.
And this Thursday I am back at our Respect Is Burning at Santos Party House residency in NYC. For those of you in NYC, please try to come down. I will be DJing in the basement.

The first Respect Ete d'amour party last Thursday at Santos Party House with Moby, Juan MacLean, Neil Aline and myself went really good! I played from the opening on the main stage upstairs. The floor got packed very fast, I played a great groovy and happy mid tempo new boogie set, and the people loved it and went nuts!

One of the record of this summer of love! It is beautiful. Dolle Jolle and Todd Terje have been running a great club night called Shari-Vari together.
The Loft by David Mancuso is launching its first official record label: The Loft Audiophile Library of Music. The first release is "My Favourite Things", the Studio Version by Alfredo de la Fe and the Live Version by The Latin Percussion Jazz Ensemble. The objective is to re-issue selected master recordings, and release them in the highest audiophile quality vinyl recording 12-inch singles on 180 gram vinyl and 45 rpm. Mastering will be handled by the legendary audiophile engineer Stan Rickman who did the mastering of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" amongst many other great recordings. Their mission statement with the label is "To share authentic musical information (musical recordings, energy, history, messages, visions, emotions, expressions, creativity and artistic integrity) through quality playback."
