Steve Rocco
October 30, 2007

I was really into skateboarding when I was younger, and one of the most exciting times was when World Industries were coming out with fresh and original new products and videos. The ideas were quite 'punk' but the applications and graphics were very different.
This new DVD chronicles the career of Steve Rocco and impact that his company, World Industries, had on the skateboard industry.
NYC Highlights
October 29, 2007

Cats on Fifth Avenue

Dog On Lexington

Richard Prince 'Spiritual America' at the Guggenheim

James Jebbia

'Stock' on East 13th Street.
One of the best vintage stores I've seen in the US, with a very pure selection.

Eccentric East Village rubber stamp shop

Sam and Leo from Nike

Chocolate Shop
Lagerfeld Confidential
October 25, 2007

I saw a great new documentary today - Lagerfeld Confidential.
As eccentric as he is, there is much to admire about Karl. This film follows him around as he works, asking his thoughts on work and life.
Even better than his book.
Super Super
October 24, 2007

Steve Slocombe from Super Super magazine is also in NYC.
I've really enjoyed hanging out with him, and understanding what he is trying to achieve with his magazine.
It has attracted a lot of positive and negative attention from different quarters and really polarizes the people that come into contact with it. Regardless of which side of the fence you sit, I think something which provokes a that much of a reaction is very interesting.

DJ Clark Kent likes the cover.
NYC 1
October 20, 2007

I just got in to NYC this evening, and I went to see the new Nike SB film.
I can never get used to watching skate films in a cinema and not at a friends house on a VCR, but the audience always make it an exciting experience.
Son Of Lebon
October 18, 2007

Photoshoot in Kew Gardens.
This was the first time I'd properly worked with
Tyrone Lebon, son of Marc Lebon.
He has a lot of interesting friends and an interesting way with cars, so it was good fun.
Silver Air Max
October 17, 2007

Continuing my collection of silver products this year is the new silver Nike Air Max 97.
With this model the construction has been updated, and every piece is a tone of silver.
I haven't worn this style of running shoe for some time, so maybe it will feel nice to try this shape again.
Frieze and Zoo
October 15, 2007
Last week was busy in London, with a lot of visitors to the art fair(s).

Frieze in Regents Park.

Richard Prince.
I had never been to the Zoo Fair before, but there was some interesting works by less-known artists.

Mikkel from V1/Norse.

S. Mark Gubb.
Ralph Lauren Book
October 14, 2007

I picked up the Ralph Lauren book yesterday.
Largely a compilation of photographs from the past 40 years of Polo, it features campaigns by Bruce Weber, shots from catalogues, and personal photos too.
If you buy it instore rather than online, you should probably factor in a taxi too - it is very heavy indeed.
Weekend In Review

Dean and Ben at I-D Magazine discussing DVD reissues...

The new movie CONTROL directed by Anton Corbijn.
I read the book 'Touching From A Distance' by Ian Curtis' widow Deborah a long time ago, and this film is based on her account of their life together.
The film looks very beautiful, and is beautifully sad.
I don't think you need to be a fan of the band - it is simply a story of a young couple trying to deal with decisions they made at a young age, with little life experience. Watching it, I was reminded of how quickly life can change from year to year at a young age.

Great exhibition at London's Gagosian Gallery, POP ART IS... defines the landscape of pop art in the 50 years since Richard Hamilton's definition of Pop Art.
Works from Hamilton, Oldenberg, Johns, Rauschenberg, Warhol, Richter, Twombly, Prince, Hirst, Koons etc...

Tim Noble and Sue Webster Dollar sign.

The Footpatrol Campus released, to a big queue. It seems to me that the sneaker market has really changed from a few years ago, so it is interesting that people were excited about a simple style of shoe.

The mail-order brand ALBAM have a newly opened store.
Simple menswear, mainly made in the UK. It's a very simple shop, with well designed products. The staff are involved in the design and production of the product, so the experience feels quite personal. I will try their basic white t-shirt.

Mens Non-No edition Nintendo DS Case. Thanks!
Adidas Campus
October 4, 2007
New project between Adidas and Footpatrol releasing on Saturday.
Campus is a very simple shoe, but has had different reference points for all kinds of different people through the years...
