Introducing Jimi Hendrix Vodka...
hb12.28.1.jpg

(I don't really feel like linking to the site, so you can Google it if you want.)

Now, I'm not going to give the "sell out" speech here, but it's fair to believe this is just a straight banking situation... Not my place to tell people what decisions they should make, especially when it comes to the dollar. When you're doing well, you can say no to more than if you weren't... Maybe someone should have listened to "If Six Was Nine" a few more times, though...

Reminds me of an article I wrote in Rolling Stone magazine a few years back.

Jimi Hendrix is one of those extraordinary hubs of music where everybody lands at some point. Every musician passes through Hendrix International Airport eventually -- whether you're a Black Sabbath fan or an Elmore James fan; whether you like Hanson or the Grateful Dead. He is the common denominator of every style of contemporary music...

If I'm ever lucky enough to be remembered 37 years after my death, I hope it's not thanks to gracing the frosted glass of a vodka bottle. Even giving the double thumbs-up on a douche box can be more easily rationalized.

Was that snarky blog syntax? Uh oh. I'm becoming the enemy.

Wave on, Wave on.

TURBO GRAFX

New Adobe Photoshop CS3 Beta - optimized for Intel Macs (finally!)

Everyone who owns an intel Mac knows that Photoshop is the one program that has kept the computer from being considered truly faster than its G4 predecessor... Now you can upgrade to CS3 (beta) for free, and with the exception of third party plugins, run a reasonably stable version of the "universal" version of the upcoming release.

With the combination of the M8, Photoshop and these two plugins, it's becoming quite a rig.

This is Gabriel. We got to talking for a second, and he explained that he was very upset because he wasn't compensated for the movie "Casino Royale", explaining that the story is an account of his life from September 11, 2001 to present date. I asked him if by "present date" he meant that there was a scene in the film of the two of us talking. (That would be proof that the film was about his life.) Unfortunately he said the conversation didn't make the film, which sent a clear message to me that things weren't going to get any more interesting than they already were, which is to say pretty damn interesting. The fact that an incredibly interesting conversation like the one we had didn't make the film makes me really want to see it now, because it must be full of amazing stuff with such high standards.

Leica's amazing new M8 digital rangefinder camera is out... It's got to be one of the best products of the year. All the fun and (most of the) look of shooting on a Leica M without the film. This camera is so amazing it can take pictures of itself! (Hi, Hiroshi... I know you were first to run the camera in your blog.)

Just for esoteric kicks, here are some great links for M8 owners:

JM vs TWO-ROCK

December 18, 2006

hb12.18.1.jpg

It's official...The Two-Rock JM model is coming soon... To say this has been in the works for a while would be an understatement. I've gone through at least eight versions throughout the years, and I think it's been nailed... 100 watts, SINGLE CHANNEL plug-and-play monster...An incredibly simple interface. tones, reverb, volume. Notice the gain and master controls are separated from the others; this is a stage-ready amp. When you're playing and you decide it MUST be louder, you know exactly where you're going to aim.

Just messing with color tests tonight - all the amp's cosmetics are very prototypical...

More details soon.

In Harley We Trust

Harley's annual holiday brunch - Harley is the best. I could go on and on trying to explain to you what kind of guy he is, but I think it's best summed up by saying that he's the guy who drives you back to wherever you left your car overnight. (You know what I mean.)

Compared to the PAM 203 (8-day 1950), which is a huge watch by any standard...

hb12.16.3.jpg

It's a collectors piece, so don't think you'll be seeing me on stage with it...One day I'll rock this thing outside the house, though. It's so over the top...And it doesn't even tell time.

Tracy Morgan

December 14, 2006

01.jpg

I've always thought Tracy Morgan was one of the funniest comedians out there. Maybe part of the reason I do is because I'm not quite sure how right in the head he is. That's the way comedians should be; you're not quite sure how they would behave if you took them to lunch. Case in point: One night a couple of years ago, I was hanging out a bar in LA when Tracy sat down to hit on some women, shirtless. In his defense it was closing time, but it was still enough to give me that combination fear/respect that I find so compelling. I did an appearance on Late Night With Conan O'Brien earlier this year and almost couldn't sing after I saw his couch spot from the dressing room. I've scoured YouTube for the best Tracy Morgan clips, and here they are. I wish I were you, about to see this for the first time.

Keep searching "Tracy Morgan" on YouTube and you'll find it all gets dirtier and more obscure... Also the way I like it.

SONY (Electronics) DOES IT AGAIN

hb12.1.2.1 copy.jpg

So I wake up this morning to find the brand new Sony Blu-Ray disc player waiting at my door. For those who don't know, Blu-Ray is like a DVD but with greater storage capacity, making it capable of showing 1080p HD video. ("I totally don't that means, but I want it.") For the last two years there has been a shoot-out between Blu-Ray and it's rival HD disc, the HD-DVD. It's still undecided which media will emerge the victor (Hello, Beta!!!) but my vote has been with Blu-Ray. I'm with it on the name alone. Sounds toxic.

Sony needs this win in big way. Most every proprietary media the electronics giant has gotten involved in has tanked - Mini Disc, CD-Extra, the Network Walkman, DUAL DISC, Sony Connect, UMD, DAT, the baby carrot reader, etc - but if they play their cards right, Sony could come out with their first big winner in many years. (Playstation doesn't count. It plays DVDs.)

I was giddy when I opened the box and lifted the stunning looking player from it's styrofoam womb. Even the remote control is a sight to behold. With "The Fifth Element" pre-packaged, this seemed like it was going to be an out-of-the-box thrill. Oh, I forgot to mention that I just set up the brand new Sony Bravia HD TV last night, so these two pieces of gear were going to get along quite nicely.

Okay. Here's where you scratch the needle off the record.

There is no supplied HDMI cable with this unit. Let me break that down for you. The cable that sends all that powerhouse image and sound information? It's not included in the box. What is? Those old RCA cables you used to hook up VCRs since the 19 farking 80s. 1000.00 USD buys you a player but no cable to supply the very features the unit is BASED upon. I'll spare you the analogies.

Big high five to Sony Electronics for their infinite wisdom; if the first ten seconds of owning this machine is any indication of its life span, this thing should make it 'til about next May.
