AND THEN, JUST LIKE THAT, BINGO! THIS MORNING I STUMBLE ACROSS THIS AMUSING UPDATE....

Sixteen years ago, cartoonists Robert and Aline Crumb moved to a French village hoping to escape what they viewed as coarsening and conservative cultural trends in America. Residing in a 13-bedroom house west of Nîmes that dates back to the 11th century, Robert — the underground comics pioneer who created Mr. Natural and Fritz the Cat and was recently featured in the Masters of American Comics exhibition — works on his version of the biblical Genesis. In addition to her own drawing, Aline teaches yoga and splits her free time between her husband and a Parisian printmaker, Christian Coudurès. The Crumbs have a famously open marriage, even though their 25-year-old daughter Sophie, who is also a cartoonist and lives nearby, describes her parents' domestic situation as "gross."

Super is an event bringing together poetic and melodic independent explorers who have emerged from the contemporary French art scene. Initiating exchanges between visual artists and musicians, Super exclusively presents their original creations in an evening of "visual music" performances. Super's artistic ambition is to stage a joyful and out of the ordinary demonstration of the relationship between music and image with quality programming.

Saturday night, the public discovered a concert by Joakim and visual artist Camille Henrot. Two other original scenography sets will represent the collaborations between the electro/rock musical group Poni Hoax with the graphic artists Bowling Club?, and the genius Koudlam merging with a video of Cyprien Gaillard.

ITS RUN BY THESE TWO RUSSIAN GUYS CALLED ALEX AND VICTOR WHO ARE SUPER SWEET AND KNOW THEIR VODKA AND PLANT SPECIES BY HEART. ON SUNDAYS (WHICH IS WHEN MOST PARISIANS HEAD OUT TO MARKETS TO BUY THEIR FLOWERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD) THEY EVEN BRING OUT THEIR BEAUTIFUL COCKATOO MARTINA, WHO WILL ARCH HER FEATHERS AND START SINGING FOR YOU IF YOU PAY HER ENOUGH ATTENTION. Quoiqu’on en dise, Paris est une ville entièrement à part.
Cité cosmopolite, berceau de la sono mondiale et capitale des lascars, ses rues ont vu naître et se développer de façon organique et infectieuse au cours des 25 dernières années les scènes du basket-ball, du Hip-Hop et de la street culture comme aucune autre capitale en Europe.
Comment oublier qu’aux portes de la ville-lumière il y a cette banlieue qui, si elle pose tant de problèmes à la République, regorge de talents, de ressources et de promesses de renouveau pour qui saurait les reconnaître et les célébrer à leur juste valeur : champions du monde, poètes de génie, pionniers du style, briseurs de records, artisans hors pair, grandes gueules et fortes têtes en tous genres. «Du sang royal dans les veines / Premiers en sport et en chant» : ce sont les Amara Sy, Moustapha Sonko, Tony Parker et Booba de ce monde.
Tout ce beau monde passe à moment où à un autre aux Halles, carrefour des tendances et haut lieu de rendez-vous des paons mâles et femelles, qui viennent s’y montrer dans des tenues d’apparat qui disent «j’existe, et regarde comme je suis beau ».
C’est autant le Paris du «Paris-Paris» que celui de «Paris Sous Les Bombes». C’est le Paris des parisiens aux horizons larges, dont les arrondissements vont du 1er au 95.
Ce Paris-là, c’est le même qui est devenu depuis près de 5 ans le théâtre du Tournoi du Quai 54, l’événement de streetball que les américains nous envient.
Même si l’on y est souvent fortement influencé par les USA en matière de musique, de sport, et de styles vestimentaires, Paris a toujours eu son propre «leust» (style).
A l’occasion des 25 ans de la Air Force 1 de Nike, cette chaussure devenue icône culturelle et véritable signe de reconnaissance des esprits indépendants, nous avons voulu célébrer tous ceux et celles qui marchent au pas de leur propre musique, tous ceux et celles qui n’ont pas attendu qu’on leur dise que ce soit «cool» de porter tel vêtement ou telle paire de baskets, tous ceux et celles qui ont ce petit «je-ne-sais-quoi» qui fait d’eux de fiers représentants d’une authentique street culture à la française. Si vous connaissez déjà tout le petit monde mis à l’honneur dans ces pages, vous ne pouvez qu’être parisien, et vraisemblablement fier de l’être.
